cythemic rotary transmission is a Daisy Seed based sound and light sculpture which uses a motor to trigger sequences of notes by blocking LED light from hitting its sensors. In addition to controlling the pace of the sequential progression, the motor speed also correlates to the delay time and feedback, further modulating the sound. The initial idea was based on Lebbeus Woods’ philosophy of nondeterministic architecture, where the space would morph around the occupant, forcing a sort of bilateral adaptation. Initial ideas however tend to fade in importance as projects develop, with the motor being the sole vestige of what was once intended to be a dynamic and motile work.
