intermittent luminal phase is an electronic sound and light sculpture with two stepper motors and eight gears with various cog counts. Most gears are equipped with LEDs, which on account of the different gear ratios go through cyclical patterns at different speeds. A piezo element captures the vibrations and abrasions between the gears, and the resulting signal is amplified and blended with the natural acoustic soundscape of the sculpture.
